The role of EPCM centre in the implementation of Rostec's mining projects. Development strategy, core competencies, growth drivers
What we are witnessing today are structural deformations in supply and demand, that highlight the fundamental problems of the mining industry: excess capacity, low labour productivity, use of obsolete technologies, attempts to reach hard-to-extract and hence high-cost reserves, insufficient R&D, and certainly high levels of leverage. It is a challenging time for the industry, for shareholders and investors – for everyone who came face to face with the current crisis. However, it is also a period of immense opportunities for new entries, capacity upgrades and implementation of new technologies and unique solutions. RT-Global Resources has been consistently increasing its presence in the mining industry. Upon having analysed demands of the Russian market, we combined specialised scientific institutes of Rostec Corporation with RIVS-Project, a large research and production association, and with Rosinzhiniring, a multi-discipline construction organisation. This consortium became the first Russian full cycle EPCM contractor capable of providing a full range of services from research to construction of complicated industrial facilities. Today we act as strategic investors in major state projects, implement existing and seek new high-margin projects. Our competence arsenal offers Russian and foreign investors an opportunity to acquire an existing business or start a new enterprise covering the whole value chain – from licencing to delivery of finished products to end users. We are ready to implement projects both through cooperation with other investors on reasonable terms or by offering specialized services in high-tech financial engineering. Subsidiaries of the Company are fully certified and have a vast positive experience of working with leading Russian banks (including VEB) as an expert in financial and technical supervision. Our units have a strong competence in arranging various sorts of financing including complicated products like syndicated loans, import and export financing, supply of equipment on payment deferral terms with revenue-linked payments. RT-GR also actively contributed to the national resource security programme. For instance, the commenced development of the Tomtorskoye deposit of rare-earth metals is a first step towards eliminating resource-related limitations faced by domestic high-tech industries, which is directly relevant for Rostec Corporation.
